Half day course.
This three-hour course is designed to support managers, supervisors and workers engaged in the planning of work to be undertaken in a confined space to address foreseeable hazards and fully engage in a safe system of work that will eliminate risk of personal harm and possible damage to the working environment.
Topics covered will be:
- Course aim and learning objectives
- Management role
- Practical interpretation of ‘confined space’
- Examples of confined spaces
- Relevant health and safety legislation – both Isle of Man and UK that is adopted as best practice
- Use of equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres
- Workplace classification for gases and dusts
- Oxygen and toxic atmospheres hazards
- Risk assessment
- Job / workplace specific safe system of work (SSW)
- Permit to work
- Organising to ensure adequate planning the 4 Cs
- Classification of types of respiratory equipment
- Rescue equipment – harnesses, lanyards, tripod winch, training
- Multi-format question paper
