The role of ‘planning supervisor’ was created by the Isle of Man Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM Regulations) in 2003.
The CDM Regulations were introduced to ensure that health and safety issues are properly considered during a project’s development so that the risk of harm to those who have to build, use and maintain structures is reduced.
The planning supervisor role is as follows:
- Ensure HSWI is notified of the project
- Ensure co-operation between designers
- Ensure designers comply with their duties and risks are either avoided or reduced
- Ensure a pre-tender stage health and safety plan is prepared
- Advise the client when requested to do so
- Ensure a health and safety file is prepared
- Advising the client about the adequacy and competence of designers and contractors.
- Ensuring that the Health and Safety Plan is prepared and advising the client about the adequacy of the Health and Safety Plan.
